The 2010 Arnold Weightlifting Championships showcases the nation’s best weightlifters in a three day event featuring open divisions for youth through adult competitors.
This year’s competitions include: the Master’s Lifting Invitational for lifters 35 years & older; the Arnold International Weightlifting Invitational where the world’s best compete for prize money; and the Arnold Weightlifting Champions of Tomorrow for lifters 8-20 years. To award their efforts, the youth lifter with the best performance will be awarded a $2000 college scholarship presented by the Columbus Rotary and Arnold Sports Festival.
The competitions will consist of the two classic lifts used in the Olympics, the snatch and the clean & jerk. The snatch is a lift from the floor to overhead in one, continuous movement. The clean & jerk is a two-part lift from the floor to the shoulders and then jerked overhead.
In attendance last year were many past and present Olympians including: weightlifting legends Tommy Kono a two-time Olympic medalist, Mr. World & Mr. Universe; and Joe Dube the last US Superheavyweight World Champion.
The Arnold Weightlifting Championships take place March 5-7 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Admission is included in a $10 daily ticket to the Arnold Fitness EXPO.
