Arnold Cheerleading & Dance Team Nationals |

More than 4,000 competitors turned up the volume and displayed amazing athletic skills as they competed in the Arnold Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships as part of the Arnold Sports Festival in the Greater Columbus Convention Center’s Battelle Grand Hall March 4-6.
“The enthusiasm of these athletes is amazing. They project the spirit that comes from the payoff of hard work and a love of what they are doing,” said event chairman, Brian Hallam, president of US Spirit.
Awards include National Champion jackets, trophies for every team, custom medals, limited edition patches and Grand Champion banners. The best individual senior cheerleader received a $2,000 scholarship presented by the Columbus Rotary and the Arnold Sports Festival. This year’s recipient was Martin Perrin of Gahanna, Ohio.
Specialty awards included Best Choreography, Cheer for a Cause Award, the iAward and the US Spirit Award of Excellence. These awards were presented by professional dance team members and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Autism Speaks was our official charity for this year. Head to our website www.us-spirit.com to learn about autism and make a donation.
The Cheerleading and Dance Team Nationals offers bids to the International All Levels Championship to the top three placing teams in eligible divisions. Bids for all star teams to compete in a “worlds” type event are an exciting part of our National Championships, Hallam said.
Individual and stunt teams competed on Friday, March 4. On Saturday, March 5, cheerleaders competed in all star Levels 1 and 2, school and rec divisions. Special needs teams also performed on Saturday. Sunday, March 6, dance teams; Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 all star teams; and open and college divisions performed.
Save the dates for next year’s Nationals, March 2-4, 2012.
