More than 1,200 students from all over Ohio will compete in the fifth-annual Arnold Archery Competition, which once again will showcase the Ohio National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament.
Participants will compete for individual and team awards in high school, middle school and elementary school divisions. The top-finishing team, as well as qualifying teams, in each division will represent Ohio at the NASP National Competition in June 2011.
“The Arnold Archery Competition and Ohio NASP State Tournament provides an excellent opportunity for students and teams that take part in the program to showcase their hard work and dedication,” said Kevin Dixon, shooting sports coordinator for the Ohio Division of Wildlife and chairman of the Arnold Archery Competition. “This tournament both gives the students an opportunity to experience competitive shooting and meet others from across Ohio who are also interested in archery.”
The NASP program has grown rapidly since being introduced in Kentucky in 2002. It has since spread to 48 states and four countries, with more than 5,500 U.S. schools participating. The Ohio Division of Wildlife implement the program in Ohio in 2004, and the state now has more than 320 participating schools.
The Arnold Archery Competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Veterans Memorial.
