Arnold Sports Festival Archers Shine at NASP World Tournament

Jacob Riffle of Meigs High School and Kelsey Taylor of Morgan High School each finished in second at the first-ever National Archery in the Schools Program World Tournament this past weekend at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

Riffle and Taylor were among 40 Ohio competitors who earned spots in the world tournament through qualifying at the Ohio NASP Tournament, held each year as part of the Arnold Archery Competition at the Arnold Sports Festival, and the national tournament which is held each year in Louisville, Ky. …

Ultimate Fighter Wes Sims Debut

Mixed Martial Arts fighter Wes Sims made his debut on Spike TV’s Ultimate Fighter last night. Sims, a long-time friend of the Arnold Sports Festival, joined 15 other fighters in a six-week stay at a Las Vegas penthouse where they worked before the reality tv cameras of The Ultimate Fighter.

Finals for the series are Dec. 5. Sims told The Columbus Dispatch that he can’t say how far he advanced during the series.

Jen Hendershott Makes MTV’s MADE

Jen Hendershott’s coaching of Carter, a 90-pound student who wants to transform his lifestyle to impress his girlfriend, is now showing on MTV’s MADE. The first showing was last Saturday.

The show’s rerun schedule showing Jen’s reaction to the very reluctant bodybuilder are found on the MTV site.

My favorite quote from Jen is when she reacts to Carter’s purposely comical posing routine telling him it isn’t a clown contest.

Firecrackers Performance at 2010 Arnold EXPO

One thing the Arnold Sports Festival is known for is the top level athletic entertainment it brings to the weekend. You’ve watched as the Alexis Brothers wowed the Arnold Classic crowd on Saturday night during intermission at the mens bodybuilding finals at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. You’ve also seen Flattop on the Arnold EXPO stage and the Columbus Opera Mens Chorus opening the IFBB finals.

This year you’ll get to watch as The Firecrackers,a performance jump rope team made up of talented 4th-8th graders from the Kings Local School District in Ohio, join the long list of weekend entertainment. The high energy, coordinated jump roping team has performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a Presidential Inauguration and on The David Letterman Show. They are a marvel to watch.

You’ll get to watch them this year on the Arnold EXPO stage.

Mike Davies instructs one of the defensive players for the Westerville Rams of the Junior Football League of Westerville as they prepare for their next game following the Labor Day break.

The Rams go into the third game of the season undefeated. The defense has yet to be scored on and has limited opponents to -18 total yards rushing and passing.

Derek Poundstone Gets His Own Arnold Wallpaper

The Arnold Sports Festival celebrates Derek Poundstone’s training success, as we mentioned earlier, with the first of a new series of images from the weekend to be used as desktop wallpapers. The first of the planned wallpapers shows Derek during the Arnold Strongman competition on the Arnold EXPO stage.

Derek Poundstone pulls 59,600 pound fire truck – Three Times!

Derek Poundstone, winner of the 2009 Arnold Strongman Contest, accomplished the hat trick of strength with three 150-foot pulls of a 59,600-pound fire department tanker down the flattest street in Prospect, CT, last Thursday. Between breaks of 15-20 minutes, the 320-pound police officer kept his head low to the ground and used a two-inch rope tied to his Honda Accord to assist him in the unusual training and show of strength.

Poundstone, 27, winner of the America’s Strongest Man competitions in 2007 and 2009, is preparing for the World’s Strongest Man competition later this month in Malta. Expect to see him at the Arnold Strongman Contest in March.

Arnold Sports Youth Athletes at the Columbus Clippers

On the next to last home game for the season for the Columbus Clippers, youth athletes from the Arnold Sports Festival greeted baseball fans with demonstrations and free tickets to the festival weekend in March 2010.
