Justin Warren (heavyweight) and Doug Madewell (lightweight) won their respective weight classes at the NAS Amateur National Championships this past weekend in Lafayette, La., to earn automatic bids to the inaugural Arnold Amateur Strongman.
Warren and Madewell were among 16 competitors to qualify for the first Arnold Amateur Strongman, set for March 5-6 at the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival.
Others who qualified include: Mike Jenkins, Dan Harrison, Ryan Haas, Erik Peterson, Brad Ardrey, Mike Caruso, Ryan Bracewell, Jarrod Beekley, Rob Lewis, Lou Costa, Chad Robinson, Dave Bourgeois, Vincent Urbank and Jonathan Pietrolaj. All are heavyweights.
The winner of the Arnold Strongman competition in 2010 will automatically qualify to compete in the Arnold Strongman Contest in 2011, an event that features the world's top professionals.
Those qualifying at the NAS Amateur National Championships will join five previous qualifiers – Dave Mihalov, Beau Gertz, Justin Blake, Andrew Palmer and Max Pippa – to form the 21-man American contingent in the inaugural Arnold Amateur Strongman.
