2010 5K Pump & Run Sells Out In 23 Hours

Published: 2009-11-02
The Arnold 5K Pump & Run, the largest race of its kind in the United States, sold all available slots for 2010 less than 24 hours after registration opened this past weekend, race co-director Matt McGowan announced today.

The race, which tests overall fitness by measuring both strength and endurance, will grow to a record 800 competitors when the 2010 Arnold 5K Pump and Run is held on Sunday, March 7. All 800 spots sold out within 23 hours of registration opening at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1.

A stand-alone 5K run is also held for those who do not take part in the Pump and Run. Registration for that event remains open.

Athletes from more than 30 states and two other countries participated in the 2009 5K Pump & Run. In he competition, participants bench press a pre-determined percentage of their body weight. Each lift (up to a max of 30) reduces their 5-kilometer run time by 30 seconds. In 2009, winner Shane Logan of Pontiac, Mich., ran a 5K in 16:34 after benching his weight the maximum 30 times for a net time of 1:34. Damien Brandon, the winner in 2007, ran a 17:08 5K to finish second. Michigan’s Lisa Veneziano won the women’s race for a fifth straight year with a net time of 3:17 (18:17 5k, 30 reps).
