Brodie and Brendan Scherer
Scherer Brothers Wrestling with Success
It is no wonder that brothers Brodie and Brendan Scherer both excelled in the Arnold Wrestling Challenge nearly three years ago (2007) , coming in second in their weight classes. They both have been training since they were four years old.
The boys started in wrestling because their father, Jason Scherer, was coaching the youth wrestling club at Riverview High School, Warsaw, OH.
“It is a fun sport to do. When I started I just liked it, so I kept doing it,” Brodie said.
Brodie trains for 90 minutes every week day, right after school. Brendan trains 90-120 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday. They also have a wrestling room in their house where they practice even more.
“We drill our moves at the beginning, warm-ups (jog, stretch, pushups sit-ups), some live wrestling,” Brodie explained
There is not a lot of weight work at their level. They work more on technique than on strength. And a lot of conditioning, running up and down hills a couple of times a week. Brodie runs cross country, and a lot of 5K races. Brendan plays linebacker on a school tackle football team.
Though their grades in school are good, Brendan and Brodie are working to do better academically, so they can go on to college. They know they will achieve that goal also, because though young, they have learned how to set goals and achieve them.
