Ajit Amesur
Ajit Amesur first competed in the Arnold Martial Arts Festival in 2001,when he was eight years old. Since then he has won many medals, including 77 gold medals, in forms, weapons and sparring.
Training for years, since he was 5, beginning in an after-school program. He has stayed with it most of his life.
Why did he start in martial arts? “I wanted to try some sports, tried soccer and didn’t like it,” Ajit said. “I always was interested in martial art, and liked Bruce Lee a lot. As soon as I tried it, I loved it, and just kept going.”
“I enjoy the feeling of competition, the sense of accomplishment when I see myself improving.”
Ajit holds the 4th dan black belt in taekwondo, and the 4th dan black sash in kung fu.
The best day of his life in martial arts? “Probably when I won the world championship in Germany…I was really excited, I really wasn’t expecting to do very well since it was my first time going there. And it was just really surprising. I worked really hard for it, and stayed focused.”
“I can’t think of a worst day. I enjoy every day when I do martial arts.
Ajit trains three times a week at home with a personal trainer. “Martial arts has given me the discipline to work harder in school,” Ajit said. “It helps me do better in everything I do overall.”
Every Sunday we have three or four other boys who come to our home, built a little platform outside and they train with his teacher. The other students ask Ajit for advice. .He’ss watch then praxctice, and help them improve.
One of his goals is to get to the Olympics in 2012 in wushu, which is a demonstration sport now.
Ajit has traveled to China this summer for three weeks and trained with one of the national wushu coaches. He wants to go back next year, and improve to the point where the Chinese think he’s Chinese. “They told me for an American I are very good, but for Chinese I would be considered intermediate. When I go back next year I want to be what the Chinese coaches call the best.”
